Prosperity Lunar New Year!

A new lunar year passed in a blink. We have managed to finish all the editings and delivering all the wedding images before Chinese New Year after months of hard work. With the sense of relief and satisfaction on jobs well done for yet another year, it’s heartwarming to reflect the great moments and weddings which many of you have entrusted us to document. Many interesting moments amid the rush and hustle of the weddings flashed back. It is also by going through the wedding journeys that friendships blossomed between us with many of you, who we once considered clients, now friends. We thank everyone who made these wonderful journeys possible.

With the ushering of the goat year, we at Top Photography would like to wish everyone an enjoyable celebration, good health and prosperity for this new year!

Happy New Year 2015!

Another fruitful year. 2014 has been pretty awesome for us. Our exposure at an international photography seminar paid off, resulting in upgraded technical skills and richer images being captured. Tying in with our philosophy, this enabled us to deliver not just event images, but precious meaningful moments that tells a unique story for each client. Through these interactions, pre-wedding led to weddings, then maternity and newborn shoots, we have grown along with our clients and many turned into great friends who remember us during their anniversary celebrations. We are thankful for all these that keep our passion burning in this competitive photography industry.

This year would not have been possible if the initial trust and opportunity is not presented to us by you. Drawing to a close for 2014, we at Top Photography would like to thank all of you for your support and here’s wishing everyone a great 2015!

Temple Wedding of Vidhya & Parvin

We had the privilege of documenting the wedding of Vidhya and Pravin, thanks to the referral from one of our past couples.
Like what we always hope for at weddings, we were treated with lots of laughter, colors and with lots of very nice guests. The temple wedding was also quite a blast with so much things happening all around the hall. Also on the side note, the ceremony is held in an air conditioned hall (thank goodness especially during this hot period). We really couldn’t ask for more except for having royal elephants during the march-in. =p
Below are some of the images.

WPJA Q4 2013 Award

We are pleased to announce that we’ve bagged 2 awards in the latest WPJA Q4 2013 ( contest! There are about 23,000 entries in this contest and 2 of our journalistic images of real moments caught the eye of the judges.

This brings us to a total of 6 awards from WPJA in 2013.

Judge’s comment: I must admit, it’s more fun to make a toast when there’s wine in the glass. But this hapless young man, surrounded by festivity, seems to be making a toast to a different idea – to be anywhere but here. Nonetheless, he provides the anchor to this lovely image.
Judge’s comment: If only I could see what created this surge, this torrent of emotion. It’s a mystery. I love a good mystery but I like a good photo even more. This image satisfies both of my desires.

Lunar New Year Reflections

It is the time of the year when all wedding photographers are either worn out or almost ‘zombified’ while trying their utmost to edit the weddings photos so that it will be in time for each couple to share them with their loved ones during the Chinese New Year visits. It seems like an universal deadline even for those sets which has deadlines after this coming festive season. No we are not complaining, in fact, it is a happy problem to deal with as we know there are couples out there who appreciate our work and philosophy in wedding photography.

As we have ‘closed shop’ for our editing work and delivering the pictures to their destined hands, it is time for us to reflect upon the past year….

Since about a year ago, we started Top Photography. It was like pressing the ‘reset button’ for our wedding photography career from our past 7-8 years in our past company. With the tough decision to drop an already established branding, we start anew with Top Photography and felt the challenges faced by the new photographers who try to make it in this challenging market. At some point, we felt like newbies again. That we realised may not be all bad exactly as we were forced to re-evaluate our photography and business directions.

In the past months, we come to conclusion that 2 is better than 1. We have been trying to find the right people who can do a good job as our second photographers and we are happy that we have found the right people now (at least that is what we think). This let us be able to capture much more unscripted moments from different perspectives at the same time. It does mean that we have to raise our prices (we kept it nominal) for this extra efforts though. Some couples may not see the difference from our portfolios but on the ground, we know that much extra has been captured with a good second shooter around. It is really worth it.

On the pre-wedding and bridal photography side, we have also tried to encourage our couples to think beyond having nice, dramatic and eye popping pictures of themselves. We took steps back to go for simpler images of them and at the same time, tell their love stories in their pictures. We felt that many think the simpler images as less impressive portfolios, but back in the hearts and minds of the couple and ours, we know these are the images we want to hold the memories of that chapter of their lives.

Philanthropy is In also in our hearts though not within our might financially. We believe in giving and making lives a little better for others. Though we are unable to give much financially, we have used our craft to bring joy and happiness to a couple of worthy charitable activities over the past year. Most significant ones we have done is for children with special needs where their families had hardly thought of having proper family portraits. We made it come true for them and also opened our eyes to see their lives which are often less open to public.

In this coming year, other than furthering our efforts to gain a little more branding traction and awareness in our photography principles, we will also like to find more ways to offer value with collaborations with the essential service providers. We are also looking to find more time for education to widen our perspectives in photography.

We hope you will be part of our journey as much as we hope to be part of yours in this coming year.

We cannot end this without thanking our friends, couples turned friends, families as well as mentors who offered advise for the unwavering support and help through the past years. Our passion in photography continues to burn while in this challenging market because of each and everyone of you. THANK YOU!

And yes, we would like to wish everyone a Happy Lunar New Year, bestest of health and joy to you and your loved ones!

Solmenisation ROM of Alice and Arnaud

Experience the effects of globalisation in Alice and Arnaud’s simple wedding at Tamarind Hill. Alice is from Italy, Anaud is from France, they met each other in China (Shanghai) and they had decided to settle down and get married in Singapore.
It took us a while to realise that upon our first meeting as we hear them uttering random French and Italian words in between our conversation, which got us wondering at first.
Their wedding was really simply how a wedding should be. Heartfelt, loving, happy and being with close friends and relatives who came from all over the world to attend. There are no bells and whistles like fancy decorations or flowers but it was all driven by joy.
Now let’s have the images to do some talking.

Xmas present came a day early! We are pleased to announce that we’ve bagged 3 awards in the latest WPJA ( contest!

We are glad that our recent submissions are of mainly journalistic images of real moments and 3 of them caught the eye of the judges.

We do not stop at awards, neither do we shoot for awards. We would like to create images that relive the memories of your wedding day and that is the purpose of our job and passion.

Below are the winning images.
